Laura Emmer Selected for 2011 FATITI Program

AU Senior Laura Emmer (French Education) has been chosen as a participant in the 2011 FATITI  program (Franco-American Teachers-in-Training Institute).  Laura is the fourth AU French Ed student chosen by this all-expenses paid exchange program in the last three years.

The Franco-American Teachers-in-Training Institute (FATITI):
FATITI  is an international teacher exchange program designed to explore the evolution of education's best practices, social and education policy and the political institutions of schooling from a comparative lens. It is funded by the U.S. Department of State in collaboration with the Franco-American Commission for Educational Exchange (Fulbright Commission) and the French Ministry of Education.  French and American teachers-in-training participate in a seminar examining history, language, culture, education and politics, followed by a teaching practicum.  The program is administered by the University of Akron.

Program Includes:
FREE airfare to France
FREE housing in France
Monthly stipend for living expenses
Orientation in France with language training and cultural seminars
The opportunity for participants to teach in their content area (in English) with mentoring support

Eligibility:
The competitive program is open to teacher candidates from a variety of disciplines.  Proficiency in French at the intermediate level is required (FREN 252 or equivalent).  Applicants seeking licensure in the following areas are encouraged to apply:
•English as a Second Language
•Foreign Language
•Language Arts
•Math
•Science
•Social Studies
•Physical Education

Program Requirements:
•Education coursework completed by Fall 2011
•Passage of Praxis Content Exam(s) prior to Fall 2011
•Ability to speak French at an intermediate level
•Seeking license or licensed in Secondary Ed.
