Rachel Gollhardt a sophomore Digital Media Journalism Major and Vocal Performance Minor traveled with the Ashland University choir to Italy over spring break. While in Italy they visited many different cities including Florence and Rome. Though many spoke English at some points during the trip not everyone spoke English and the group did not know more than a few words in Italian but while there Rachel used her basic knowledge of Spanish to help her overcome the language barrier. "Even though they spoke Italian some of the Spanish words are cognates" Rachel Said, "Using my Spanish I was able to communicate with a store owner that spoke very little English."
